Angry Whats up with 1.0.9742 linux drivers?

The latest driver does not support GeForce2 MX/MX 400 anymore forcing users with this card to move to the 1.0.9742 (legacy driver), what does this mean? meaning we cant use compiz and have a sensible NVidia X server settings (using the legacy driver theres nothing to set in the Nvidia setting at all). I can understand that older card will be phased out, but at least move the current support to the legacy driver portion.

I am still using 1.0-9629 because of this fact, but i thought the latest driver would fix up the issue of only detecting 32mb from an 128mb card. There have been post about this issue but still no fix for awhile now. http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=55335

97xx drivers do not support anything older than NV30 (FX) anymore. Users of hardware older than that should use another "branch" of legacy drivers which will be the 96xx series from now on.

Besides, I dunno if I got you right but you've got a GF2MX card with 128MB of memory?

That post is over a year old now, and netllama hints that it's a problem with the motherboard or gfx card BIOS, not the driver.

So with the problem of it not detecting the right amount of available memory, is it only for statistic (as in just the display in Nvidia settings)? or will the driver only assume that there is only 32mb and only use that much, leaving the other 96mb untouched?

Anyone know a work around to make it detect the right amount? Help would be greatly appreciated.
Well just like the other poster, my hardware combination and setup is fine under windows with the card, and i cant really pin point any other place apart from the nvidia driver because it is what giving me wrong output.

does this mean, that my GeForce 420 Go 32MB will not work with the new drivers?

The 1.0-9742 fails to install on my device, so I don't know how many more drivers that will work with my card...

I am not too sure on that, you can try installing it, if it doesnt work then you either use the previous version like me or you can opt for the legacy driver

1.0-9742 supports NV3x and newer GPUs.
