i have a FX5500 plugged into a Samsung SyncMaster 205bw (20" widescreen) via DVI.
using DVI i cannot get a resolution above 1024x768. i'm guessing the video card is getting some misinformation via EDID. when i use the VGA cable i get only 1680x1050 and cannot change it. any ideas? |

I have the same problem: my screen with drivers nv or nvidia under Windows runs at 1024x768, but with nvidia driver under Linux it runs at 800x600.
I have seen that a part of the screen (at left) is blank, and that nvidia-settings tells me that my screen is 969x768!!! I think this is the real problem: nvidia driver don't view all screen. My hardware is:
My sotware:
I have tested a lot of configuration, but all give me same results: 800x600 With option "UseEdid" to "false" my screen become crazy. My last xorg.conf with nvidia driver: Quote:
log file of xorg with nv driver tells me: Quote:

Both of you, look at http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678 and post the nvidia-bug-report.log, then someone can help track down what the problem is. It's probably just ModeValidation stuff that needs sorting. There are quite a few posts already about that, so you may be able to find the correct answer for your systems there.

attached is my bug report log.
also if i just upgrade to a 6200 or a 6500 will i get a simmilar card that will do widescreen over DVI hassle free in linux? i've heard stories of people switching out FX5* for 6* and it automagically works. can someone reccomend a good card that will give me what i want in the price range i'm looking for? |

If you do decide to get a different card, make sure it has dual link TMDS. This is something that the board manufacturers can decide to reduce costs on. I would suggest avoiding any card that uses TurboCache - this uses your system memory to supplement the memory on the card (again, to reduce costs). Cambo |

It not appear to be a problem of ModeValidation; I had used all value for this options, but the result is the same: screen at 800x600 and a part of screen cutted. With "NoEdidModes" I have a blank screen.
Could it be a problem of driver's options? Can I give some parameter on nvidia driver loading for this problem? Or it can be a BIOS problem? Bruno |

Please start X with the following command:
startx -- -logverbose 6 and then generate and attach an nvidia-bug-report.log. Thanks, Lonni |
