I'm confused. How do I write the screen section in xorg.conf? I can't' find tutorial on this anywhere. Should I do a dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg to get it to find the modes?

woooaaaaah, okay I started it up with no modes specified, and it's HUGE. It's as if it set the resolution to 320x240. The console was way too big as well. This is not working right.

the nvidia-bug-report.sh script says that my NV-CONTROL extension is too old. I'm using the nvidia-legacy drivers. Is this going to work at all?

attached xorg log file. I don't even know what to do. I have "UseEDID" set to "False" but it still uses it.
Attached Files
File Type: log Xorg.0.log (33.1 KB, 103 views)
File Type: log xorg.conf.log (3.5 KB, 124 views)

Remove the Modelines. It should work with the modelines from the TV.

I would recommend going back to an older driver (8776) as the current driver is broken. It "checks" all kinds of things it better should not look at.
Your TV appears to return a resolution of 1920x540 which will make the new driver reject the 1920x1080i and 1280x720 modelines that the TV will send. They should stop doing such silly things.

You want to use HDMI/DVI if that's available or else at least component.
Is this accurate? Appendix H of README.txt appears to describe how to configure s-video output to use things up to HD1080p. This fascinates me because I've never been able to find the standards for carrying those resolutions over s-video or, even more bewildering, composite cables.

What can I do, to just make it ignore EDID and use the valid modelines? The problem I'm having is that even though the resolution is 1920x1080, it's returning 1920x540. That's no good. Also, the console appears to be overscanned.

Okay, I found a parameter to add! "IgnoreEDID" EDID returned the info I needed - refresh rates, etc, so that's all right. I wrote modelines for 1080i and 720p. It SHOULD work now, but I can't test it, because I'm at work.
