Default segmentation fault when starting a 3d app

I have Mandriva 2007 Free Edition running on my PC, which has a Abit Siluro nVidia GeForce 4 Ti 4200 graphics card.
It was working fine with the 1.0-8774 driver, but now I upgraded to the 1.0-9629 driver, I have an X-server, but it gives a segmentation fault whenever I try to use anything that has something to do with 3d acceleration.
Even glxinfo gives a segmentation fault.
I have no eeprom module loaded.

Do you use nvidia-driver from plf site (rpm package) or this one from nvidia site?

In the first case, you must use nvidia-xconfig once. In the second case, be sure that you have
load "glx" in your xorg.conf file

I have tried both the rpm from plf and the package from the nvidia website.
I've tried everything, but it still segfaults.
For the plf version I had to remove the load "glx" line? It needed some other glx something or other...
I'll look it up ....

/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia/libglx.so

That's the one it told me to replace "glx" with.

As for the version from the nvidia website, I just did everything it said (like I have done with a lot of versions before, which always have worked for me), but it still segfaults whenever I try to run glxinfo, glxgears or any other program that addresses the hardware accelerated graphics.

The 9629 driver has a known bug, which causes segfaulting of OpenGL apps with NV2x GPUs (anything starting from GF3, to latest GF4s excluding the MX series).

You can go back to 8xxx series or use 9626 beta driver.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll stick with the 8xxx series driver for now.
Do you happen to know if (and when) nVidia is going to fix this issue?
