Default High CPU usage on scrolling web pages.

Hi

I have a problem when scrolling web pages that Xorg uses about 70% cpu usage and the scrolling jerks. This is on a 6600gt PCI-e card with driver version 9625.

Forcing anti-aliasing off brings things back to normal but with really ugly fonts. Why is antialising causing soo much load? I can see the screen painting!. OpenGL apps are fine so I am assuming the driver is installed ok.

Are you using Xinerama?
If so, you are apparently cursed with this for evermore.

However if not, you probably just need to enable RenderAccel, by adding the line
Option "RenderAccel" "true"
to the Device section of your xorg.conf

If you are using subpixel hinted antialiasing for your fonts, try turning off the subpixel hinting.

What browser are you using? If Qt one, like Opera or Konqueror, you can almost get rid of slowness by running this command:

Code:
nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=0
I have it in my .xinitrc and "screen painting" problem didn't disturb me anymore.
I'm using RGB subpixel AA with 'cleartype-like' patches from David Turner.

Forget to say, it's not working with Xgl/beryl
