Default And How to instal Nvidia Drivers?

I have a Kubuntu 6.10 box, a GeForce 7900GS (Dell Inspiron 9400), and recently I installated the acceleratd nVidia drivers (v 1.0-8776) using a program called "Automatix".

I decided to install the newest version of the drivers (9631) for using Beryl&Co. , but with no luck.

Im exited from X server, loged as root, "sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9631-pkg1.run", and after a while Im getting a message tellingme "I dont have kernel interface for this version of driver" (or somthing egual), and after that is trying to conect to nvidia server for dovnloading the needed files, and after that is tellingme: "I dont have libc-dev installed in system. Please install them". And end of the story.

So, have someone a script for automatix to install the newest drivers, or a more HUMAN way? Sorry, newby here.
