Default Optimum config for dual Quadro 4500 cards

Hi!

I have got a box with two Quadro 4500 cards. This box is connected to two 1920 x 1200 screens. How should I configure the cards to get maximum performance?

I have tested with one monitor connected to each card, and used Xinerama. This is giving quite poor performance, and if I connect both monitors to one card and use Twinview instead I actually get a better performance.

The user does want to move windows from one monitor to the other one, so I can't use a two screen setup.

How can I best take advantage of the second card? Is there any SLI variants I could use? But is SLI good together with Twinview?

Best Regards,

Hi!

With "better peformance" with twinview, i guess you mean that
windows can be moved more smoothly from one display to
the other one? For typical desktop operation, twinview is in
deed the better choice. When it comes to 3D, then xinerama
is better: a 3000x1100 glxgears windows gives 610 FPS on
my 7800GTX twinview setup whereas i get 1143 FPS when
in xinerama mode.

Unfortnuatly, the nvidia driver doesn't support twinview on
an SLI configuration. Means: in SLI mode, only the first
output connector on the first card will deliver any signals.

BTW.: did anybody yet tried out a compositing window manager
on a xinerama setup? From what i understand, these WMs
are using OpenGL for image manipulation, so moving windows
between displays should be much smoother for xinerama!?
Do compositing window managers work at all with xinerama?
(just curious)

Hi!

It's not the window moving performance that is the issue, it's 3D performance. The application I am running is having better FPS if I disable the one card and use Twinview. I would not trust glxgears to be a proper benchmark in this case.

The window moving just have to work.

Right now I have an expensive Quadro 4500 card which is not used at all.. I just want to make sure that I tested everything before I put it into another box or simply just sell it.
