Default GeForce 7950 Driver Problem

Hello,
Can someone tell me which driver I should be using with this card? I am running SuSE Linux 10.2 and have tried 1.0-8776, 1.0-9631, and 1.0-9746. The 8776 version seems to work ok for the most part. The 9631 version causes the fan to run full speed all the time (noisy!) but the driver seems to work. With the latest 9746 version, I get "no screens found". Are future drivers no longer compatible with my card? I am attaching relevant info from the 9746 driver.

Thanks,
Ron

The 1.0-9746 NVIDIA Linux graphics driver does support your GPU, but does not appear to be installed correctly on your system. Please try reinstalling the driver; if you're using the .run installer and the problem persists, please run the installer with the -e command line option and generate/attach another nvidia-bug-report.log file. Please also see http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/nvidia-...ler-HOWTO.html for SuSE specific installation instructions.

Default Re: GeForce 7950 Driver Problem

Thanks for the help zander,
I am using the .run file because the suse update method for the drivers has never worked for me. For some reason, I was able to modprobe the nvidia module into the kernel (lsmod showed it) but X wouldn't use it.

This time I re-ran the installer with -e as you suggested. I accepted the defaults for all questions and now it works. I am attaching a new log file for comparison.

Best Regards,
Ron
