Default nvidia binary driver oops with linux kernel 2.6.19.1 SMP

Hi

I'm experiencing stability issues with NVidia module on a DELL XPS M1710 laptop with Geforce Go 7950 GTX.

Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Backspace crashes the kernel with the following error:

On regular reboot (ie when it has not crashed) the text console is all full of random pixels.

Attached files are kernel 2.6.19.1 config used, and nvidia-bug-report.log log file.

None of this issues occur with the "nv" driver. Other than that, the nvidia driver seems stable and works fine.

Default Re: nvidia binary driver oops with linux kernel 2.6.19.1 SMP

This Oops doesn't appear to be in the nvidia kernel module. Does this only reproduce with your own 2.6.19.1 kernel and not an official Ubuntu kernel?

What triggers the Oops?

Thanks,
Lonni

Yes, the oops doesn't occur in the nvidia module, but it occurs only with the nvidia module loaded.

The Ubuntu stock kernel 2.6.17-10-generic kernel is causing trouble on this hardware, as X events gets lost or reported twice (probably an IRQ problem). Switching to 2.6.19.1 fixes that issue.

The oops doesn't occurs with the Ubuntu stock kernel 2.6.17-10-generic but the X server fails to restart after a kill (it stays stuck on the NVidia splash logo)

To reproduce, simply kill the X server with ctrl+alt+backspace.
