That's a good chip; you may want to think about some better cooling for it. I have a buddy who has his 6400 @ 3.5gHz @ 1.375v and is 52-54C dual-prime load small FFT's.

He has the Tuniq Tower.

Right now, I am running 3.3 ghz my voltage according to CPU-Z are 1.352 - 1.36. According to Core Temp 1.325. And according to PC Probe 1.35. So which ever is correct :s

And my definition of load is running Prime95 maximum heat on both cores.

The highest I have gone is 53c at 3.3ghz.

Now I also have a case fan blowing directly on the heat sink from the side. And good airflow. Plus it is winter here, well sorta winter, outside is around 11c during the day. Suppose to be -2c so my room is kinda cool. I'm sure the temps will rise in the summer.

im almost certain i can run 3.5-3.6ghz 24/7 on air. Temps scare me though a little bit.

@stevemedes

Yeah, the Tuniq would take care of any temp problems.

@Slie
Go by PCProbe. It's the only one out of those that will report CPU voltage correctly. And which Prime test are you running[Edit: I just now saw you said "Maximum Heat" which must mean Large FFT's?] There's a big difference in load temps between Small FFT's, Large FFT's, and Blend (which uses a lot of memory).

Yup thats correct. Large FFT's

I always assumed the highest number was my voltages being used, to be on the safe side. Didn't know which program was right. Thanks for letting me know.

Yeah, CPUZ has always had problems reading the voltage when you feed more than stock to it. It's even been off as much as 3 tenths of a volt. Case in point:

Now I wish that I could run my Conroe @ 3.5gHz on 1.213 voltage... sadly that's not the case.

This actually brings up a question for me.
I have my voltages set higher in bios than I have ever seen pc probe display.
Right now it is showing 1.39v (I just bumped my cpu up to 3.4ghz).

Now in bios I had it set to 1.45v. Prime95 failed after about 10 seconds.
I just bumped it up to 1.5v. Prime95 has so far been going for 10 minutes without errors.

So for it to be stable so far, I had to bump the voltages in bios. Yet in Pc Probe I haven't hit 1.4.

I am confused as to why this is. Any ideas?

The bios on the P5B overrates the voltages. My guess is it does this as a safety measure so users won't damage their chip. Go by what PCProbe says.

no it doesn't. This is due to vdroop which is typical of most Asus boards. Just a voltage regulation problem.

Mod that will fix it.
