I bought a Samsung 204B monitor yesterday that has a native resolution of 1600x1200. When I log in, the resolution starts out at 1280x1024. I can switch to the higher resolution using the nvidia GUI, but after I log out, resolution switches back to 1280x1024. The login screen is at 1280x1024.
Attached is the bug report. The Screen section from xorg.conf is: Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Videocard0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 Modes "1600x1200" EndSubSection EndSection This is with fedora core 6, and an evga 6600 gpu. Any advice appreciated. Thanks, Brad |

According to your bug report, X is running 1600x1200:
(II) NVIDIA(0): Virtual screen size determined to be 1600 x 1200 How are you determining that its doing 1280x1024 ? |

My apologies. I ran the nnvidia-bug-report script after manually changing the resolution back to 1600x1200. The 1280x1024 display is obvious when i log in and confirmed by the nvidia gui.
I have attached two log files. nvidia-bug-report_before.log is a log file generated before i log into X, generated from a shell. nvidia-bug-report_after.log is a log file i run after i log into X from an x-term. thank you for the response. Brad |

In your bug report, I see:
(II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "1600x1200" (II) Mouse0: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded (II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "1280x1024" Something is changing the mode, perhaps Gnome? Per the driver README: ######### Q. Using GNOME configuration utilities, I am unable to get a resolution above 800x600. What is wrong? A. The installation of GNOME provided in distributions such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 contain several competing interfaces for specifying resolution: 'System Settings' -> 'Display' which will update the X configuration file, and 'Applications' -> 'Preferences' -> 'Screen Resolution' which will update the per-user screen resolution using the XRandR extension. Your desktop resolution will be limited to the smaller of the two settings. Please be sure to check the setting of each. ######## |

Netlama -
Thank you for your help. resolution seems to be "sticking" now. A minor bug report. The nvidia configuration gui has a panel title GPU Scaling Method with 3 radio buttons. The top button label is misspelled. "Streched" is the current value. It should be "Stretched". Thanks again! Brad |

Thanks for catching the typo. I've opened bug 280111 to have it corrected.
thanks, Lonni |
