I am running debian linux 2.6.18 with xorg (mythtv box installed with knoppmyth). I have the video card connected to an Nvidia 6200tc graphics card. I have a modeline configured to stretch widescreen with my Sony42A10 with the 7184 drivers (was created by someone using powerstrip with a 42A10).
Modeline "Sony42A10" 79.393 1224 1312 1440 1664 688 733 738 796 -hsync +vsync It works great and fills the whole screen. When I have the 8776 drivers installed, the modeline no longer works. If I run at 800x600 it works fine. If I set it to the modeline that worked with 7184, it does change the screen, it looks offset to the left and small. Almost like it took the modeline but did not scale it. I have looked at nvidia-settings, but see no scale options. Would really like to use some of the latest drivers and not be stuck on 7184. Any help would be appreciated. Updated: 1-6-2007 with log using the requested startx settings. Any help getting my old Sony42A10 modeline back to full screen would be great. Please see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678; also note that the current graphics driver release for your GPU is 1.0-9746.

Per you note, attached are the nvidia-bug files for each configuration. I have a working system with the 7184 drivers and one with the 8776 drivers that does not scale. Hope this helps.
The system with the 8776 drivers works (stretched screen - fills screen) if I install the 7184 drivers, but with the 8776 drivers it does not. I am using a widescreen modeline on a Sony 42A10 TV. |

OK - did some more testing on the 8776 driver. I set the following
Option "UseEDID" "FALSE" and used a new modeline someone posted for the Sony 42A10. This produced a picture that filled more of the screen. There was a wide black bar on the right and small ones top, bottom, left and right. ModeLine "1280x720" 74.25 1280 1390 1430 1648 720 725 732 752 +hsync +vsync Did something change from the 7184 driver to the later drivers that change how these are outputed? The original modeline in 7184 was made in powerstrip and worked perfect when imported into linux. Just won't work on the later drivers. |

Still at a loss. I tried various modelines with limited success. This one works the best so far:
ModeLine "Working" 74.086 1280 1320 1376 1648 720 722 728 750 This fills the screen minus a 1 inch border around all sides. Compared to the working 7184 modeline: Modeline "Sony42A10" 79.393 1224 1312 1440 1664 688 733 738 796 -hsync +vsync They are pretty close. Still cannot figure out why the Sony42A10 modeline will not work. What changed in the drivers after 7184 that makes this not work. I also tried various options in turning off EDID and horiz and vert refresh checks. No luck. |
