Default Ridge Racer 7 for PS3? Yay or Nay?

Finally picked up my PS3 through a bundle package through NewEgg. Curious to know from you guys if you would recommend buying Ridge Racer 7? I've always been a fan of the Ridge Racer series and design of the cars and course ways. Graphics look sweet but wondering if gameplay has changed at all....and if so for the better or worse

Of course I picked up the major essentials for the PS3 but curious if this is a title worth owning at all or is there something else major I should wait for? Figured I'd ask since I have quiet a bit of store credit at GameCrazy now. Glad to finally have picked up a PS3 myself

If you have liked the previous ones I would say yes... it is a lot of the same, but the online mode is quite fun (although I swear some of those people cheat somehow... they got ridiculous times lol).

Unfortunately I was unable to play Part 6. The last RidgeRacer I played/owned was RR5 for Playstation 2. I did read alot of reviews and seen video reviews of RR7 and it seemed awesome. I've heard gameplay is similar to previous RidgeRacers, but if the graphics make up for it, I would most likely want to own it

I hadn't played any Ridge Racer game before and RR7 was the first game I purchased for the PS3. It's a lot of fun and I think it's a good purchase if you like those type games.

If you havent played RR6, go ahead and get RR7.
RR7 = RR6 w/ added stuff.

I rented it from Blockbuster, and I love racing games, so I'll have to give you some feeback if I get time to play it today. I can compare it to NFS: Carbon and GT: HD, and tell you which one I liked best.

Played it for about an hour and a half. I've never really played any RR games before, and it has a major learning curve. I just tried an arcade race with a fast car, I thought it handled fairly well, and that I was doing okay, and yet, I couldn't pass a single car. I tried like 3 times and I was 14 / 14. So I was like WTF. Went into the RSGP, and tried the manufacturer's trial. I first tried the danver one, and after 1/2 losses, usually around sixth, I was about ready to break the disc the game came on. Went back and did the Kamata, won that the first time I tried. I was able to win one of the challenges with that car as well.

The hardest thing for me is trying to figure out the drift; it is very arcady feeling. You really can't let off the accelerator going into the turn, otherwise the car will automatically drift and there isn't much you can do about it. I had a few times I would be doing okay, then all of the sudden the car would do a 90 degree turn, and I would fishtail the thing down the whole straightaway before I got it straight again.

To me it is kind of a cross between GT and NFS: Carbon. The car drives very flat, but when it drifts, it drifts. It hates walls, and acts kind of weird if you rub against one. The overall handling is very tight, and the car is responsive right away, but doesn't turn for crap, you have to drift if you want to turn sharp. Coming from a sim game where you would actually brake, it is completely different. I really didn't bother with the brake, because it is one of those types that if you hit it, you instantely drop like half your speed.

When your in a drift, it handles more like Carbon, and is fairly easy to control, it's just getting out of the turn at the right time. You really need to turn in early, then let the car slide back straight coming out of the turn, at least that was what was working best for me.

Overall, I think the game would be fun if I could control it, I'm still having a hard time with that, but if you've played previous ones, it is probably much easier for you. The graphics in game are pretty sweet, and it uses a good amount of motion blur which is really noticeable on tail lights.

I would have to rate RR7 below Carbon and GT: HD, but that is mainly because of what I'm used to. I've played many different NFS, and started racing with the original GT. If I could handle RR7, it would be right up there with the other 2.
