Default adjustment of the luminosity

Hi !

After the installation of the Nvidia driver I can't adjust the luminosity of my laptop screen.

If I keep `Driver "vesa"` in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf, there is no problem ; but with `Driver "nvidia"` I can't adjust this luminosity with my keyboard. (It is possible at startup, before load the nvidia module).

Any idea ?

PS : I had the same problem with my old Ubuntu (actually I'm under Arch now). I never try with Windows or other *nix.

Do I forgot to tell something about my problem ? Nobody has the same problem ?
My graphic card is a GeForce GO 7400, and my driver version is 9631 (from the repository of my Linux)...

Do I need to upgrade (I don't really want to break my system using an external package...) or it will change nothing ?

I think just about everyone have the same problem. Perhaps just not a priority for most people (myself included), so it doesn't get mentioned alot. I have never gotten luminosity to work with any proprietary driver.

So you mean I can't hope for it ?

It is the same on Windows ? :s

Edit : I found smartdimmer... that works nice, I'm happy, but I need to pass by the terminal... smartdimmer -s 20 for example... but nothing with the shortcuts keyboard, too bad

Thx for the tip, didn't know that worked

Setting up shortcuts to this program should be of little problem..

Maybe we can try to bind to "smartdimmer --increase" and "smartdimmer --decrease"...

Yes, take a look at xbindkeys. Not sure you can get it working with the fn keys, but atleast you can bind it to anything else (eg. Win + F5 and F6).
