Default PS3 Blu-Ray DVD Help

Well I got my PS3 in today and after getting it updated and set up I decided to watch Crank. When the movie plays I have a lot of information that shows up on the upper and lower black borders - stuff like time remaining, audio output. etc.

Is there any way to get rid of that information? All I can seem to do so far is zoom the picture in but I just want to maintain the proper aspect ratio without all the information being displayed. Any help would be appreciated.

Or, if you have the PS3 remote, just press the Display button.

Ok - I seem to have been able to remove the info part but now I noticed that this movie is filling up my entire 16x9 screen. The DVD case states that it is supposed to be 2.40:1 ratio so I should still have black bars on the top and bottom. Changing from standard to fill mode on my LVM37-W3 doesn't seem to help any. Anyone else have this BD?

*EDIT* Looks like some people are saying the case is wrong and its actually 1.85 or 1.7 - that had me worried for a bit. Well I am off to watch my movie!!!

Glad you got it worked out. Crank was an awesome movie imo.

Even so, if the picture on your screen isn't displaying to the correct dimensions the problem is more than likely how you have your tv set. Many hdtvs let you set the aspect ratio that it will stretch the picture to (I don't know of any that don't), usually hitting the appropriate button on your tv remote can fix that. The PS3 should have less impact on such things, as even if it does pick the wrong resolution, the aspect ratio should be the same.

It was a typo smart ass.

It's nice being able to pick out HD movies now without worrying about what system it is on. I had the 360's HD-DVD first but after looking at the list of movies expected in the coming year I saw more BD movies I was interested in than HD-DVD titles.

No, I obviously didn't mean to put in "DVD" since its technically called "BD".

Heh, I've done the same thing more than once and still think of them all as DVDs.
