Hi all,
xfx geforce 5200, suse 10.2, kde, samsung syncmaster 710n monitor Since installing suse 10.2 with and the latest 10.2 nvidia driver as per nvidia web site instuctions (via YasT etc) I have been having a strange problem. My monitor recommend resolution is 1280 x 1024 @ 75hz If I boot up Suse 10.2 without nvidia drivers and look at desktop settings my 3 refresh rates available @ 1280 * 1024 are 59 hz, 60 hz and 75hz and the recommended 75hz works no problem. However, once I install latest 10.2 nvidia driver via Yast, the version is 1.09631-0.1, then I can still get 1280 x 1024 but my refresh rate options are limited down to 50, 55, 56, 57 and as a result my pic is not as sharp is it should be. So at this time I also can look in 10.2 configuration menu and see that nvidia config applet is there. I open this and see that resolution is correctly set to 1280 x 1024 and refresh rate is set to 'auto' On clicking auto a list box drops and my 4 refresh rate options are 75, 60 ,59 and 58. I choose 75, apply etc and return to desktop. On entering display properties via right clicking on desktop I know find that my reported refresh rate is now 103 hz! But the monitor does not support this and the picture does not seems any sharper. So basically what I have trying to say that the 10.2 nvidia driver installed via Yast does not give/support the proper refresh rates. I can only get 1280 x 1024 @ 75hz (and sharper picture) by uninstalling the nvidia drivers. But then I loose 3d support etc etc. This never happened in 10.1, any ideas on what's up with 10.2? cheers, toe. ps below is xorg.conf after setting 1280 x 1024 @ 75hz via nvidia config applet # nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings # nvidia-settings: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder3) Thu Nov 9 17:56:12 PST 2006 Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Layout0" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" EndSection Section "Files" RgbPath "/usr/lib/X11/rgb" EndSection Section "Module" Load "dbe" Load "extmod" Load "type1" Load "freetype" Load "glx" EndSection Section "ServerFlags" Option "Xinerama" "0" EndSection Section "InputDevice" # generated from default Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "Emulate3Buttons" "no" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "InputDevice" # generated from default Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" EndSection Section "Monitor" # HorizSync source: edid, VertRefresh source: edid Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Unknown" ModelName "Samsung SyncMaster" HorizSync 30.0 - 81.0 VertRefresh 56.0 - 75.0 ModeLine "1280x960" 107.3 1280 1360 1496 1712 960 961 964 995 +hsync +vsync ModeLine "1280x800" 107.2 1280 1360 1496 1712 800 801 804 835 +hsync +vsync ModeLine "1280x768" 97.8 1280 1352 1488 1696 768 769 772 801 +hsync +vsync ModeLine "1280x600" 72.8 1280 1336 1472 1664 600 601 604 625 +hsync +vsync ModeLine "1024x600" 58.1 1024 1072 1176 1328 600 601 604 625 +hsync +vsync ModeLine "768x576" 41.7 768 800 880 992 576 577 580 600 +hsync +vsync ModeLine "1280x1024" 107.0 1280 1360 1496 1712 1024 1025 1028 1059 +hsync +vsync ModeLine "1152x864" 98.6 1152 1224 1344 1536 864 865 868 900 +hsync +vsync ModeLine "1024x768" 74.6 1024 1080 1192 1360 768 769 772 799 +hsync +vsync ModeLine "800x600" 45.5 800 840 920 1040 600 601 604 625 +hsync +vsync ModeLine "640x480" 28.6 640 664 728 816 480 481 484 500 +hsync +vsync Option "DPMS" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Videocard0" Driver "nvidia" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" BoardName "GeForce FX 5200" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Videocard0" Monitor "Monitor0" DefaultDepth 24 Option "metamodes" "1280x1024_75 +0+0; 1280x1024 +0+0; 1280x960 +0+0; 1280x800 +0+0; 1152x864 +0+0; 1280x768 +0+0; 1024x768 +0+0; 1280x600 +0+0; 1024x600 +0+0; 800x600 +0+0; 768x576 +0+0; 640x480 +0+0" SubSection "Display" Depth 24 Modes "1600x1200" "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" EndSubSection EndSection |
