Default Re: opengl broken after livna nvidia driver update

I have given up ...

-- I have verified my kernel version
-- installed every driver package (official, repo)

What is there left to do?

Is it even possible to get nvidia drivers installed and working??

When are the new drivers supposed to be released?

What I can advice to the users with low resolution/refresh rates, is UseEDID "false" It's a must if you have a monitor that lies about its capabilities (like my 19" "professional" iiyama).

My Ti4200 also worked with 9626 [excluding compiz/beryl, which technically worked, but no window decorations showed up ], but suddenly started crashing every glx app with 9629. Is there some workaround, some new beta 9630, or do we really have to downgrade?

The livna packages for the nvidia drivers seem to have some issues. Just for reference, I use FC6 and the Smart package manager.

First of all Smart attempts to install the i586 version of the driver, resulting in a switch of the kernel version as well. That can be corrected by "locking" the i686 version of the kernel (I presume) or manually installing the correct version.

The other issue is more subtle but equally severe. The nvidia libGL libraries are installed in /usr/lib/nvidia. For some reason the /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 keeps pointing to the /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2, which is a mesa library, instead of the /usr/lib/nvidia/libGL.so.1.0.9626. I manually fix the symbolic link:
sudo ln -sf /usr/lib/nvidia/libGL.so.1.0.9626 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1

Another issue I've seen is with the permissions of the /dev/nvidia* devices. Direct rendering fails due to that. I do the following to correct it:
sudo chmod 0666 /dev/nvidia*
sudo chown root /dev/nvidia*

Hope this helps. Due to the above issues one might wonder why bother using the livna packages.

As one of the nvidia devs said, if you have an NV2X card don't use the 9629 driver, you'll get sgementation faults.

I hope bug fixes from the main driver branch will find their way to the legacy branch. Also it would be nice if beta drivers for the legacy branch were released as well (if not already done so). I see some bug fixes in the 9742 beta driver that I'd like to see them backported to the legacy branch, even in the form of a beta driver.

thank you

Resolved in the next Driver release???? How is that possible when the NV2x based CPU's won't even be supported by the next driver?

The next driver will still be from the 1.0-96xx branch.

How soon should we expect for a fix of the segmentation fault found in the 9629 driver? Days? Weeks? Months?

Ok. I'm confused and have a few questions...

Where can I download the 9626 driver since 9629 doesn't work with nv20? I can't seem to find a link from nvidia's site.

The 9742 beta driver readme claims to work with nv20. Does it? If so, does this driver fix the 3D crash issue that 9629 introduced?

Is nv20 moving to the legacy driver in the next official nvidia driver release?

Does the legacy driver support AIGLX? If not, will it? ever? soon?

1.0-9626 is here (from the driver archives page):
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._1.0-9626.html

1.0-9742 only supports NV3x and newer GPUs.

AIGLX is part of Xorg-7.1 (and later).

Does 9631 support 3D on NV20?
