Hi,
I am searching for a new graphics adapter for our mecial applications that can 1) run under linux (RHEL 3.x or better) 2) dual head (Or better) 3) accelerated portrait resolution of minimum 1536x2048. 4) 8 bit gray scale is enough I found various interesting nVidia card, however, I am uncertain how to configure them for portrait mode. Often the rotate options in the Xserver are not accelerated or buggy. Is there an nVidia card with some tweaking of the xorg.conf file that match my requirements. Price is not an issue. Kind regards, Hans. |

Hi Hans,
The NVIDIA drivers support rotation on all supported GPUs both through the RandRRotation option, which allows changing the rotation on the fly, and the Rotate option, which turns on static rotation. See the README for more details. The rotation operation slows things down slightly because the GPU has to do more work, but it's still accelerated. Hope that helps! -- Aaron |

Thanks Aaron,
BTW, what nVidia card would you advise for our applications? We only do 2D stuff. Thanks in advance. Hans. |

if you check on this forum you'll find that nvidia 2d support is not great. They do have fairly good 3d (probably the best on linux). Since you work on 2d and with linux, why not check out on freedesktop (maybe sending an email to the xorg mailing list) to see what they may suggest you. Given the open specs of intel (and open source drivers), i guess intel based gpu may be better my 2c c. |
