My ti4200 has died and I need to buy an AGP graphics card to replace it, hopefully one which is about equal in performance. I have my eye on the "XFX GeForce 6200A 128MB DDR2 AGP8x". How much of a performance boost should I be seeing, if any?
Thank you in advance. |

The 6200 will blow the 4200 out of the water, even though I probably like my old 4200 better.
I'd actually suggest getting a 6600, as it would be a much better card than a 6200. IMO the 6200 is a lot cheaper of a card versus the rest of its family (6600 / 6800) in comparison to a ti4200 to 4400 / 4600.Edit: Just looked around a little, and there aren't many choices left. You'd definetely notice an improvement with that card, but I'm not sure what your using it for, because it will lack on most newer titles. |

Thank you. I won't be playing any of the latest games. Most of the games I play were made in 2003 or earlier, and I alter the settings such that I get a smooth framerate all the time. Usually I play at 1024x768 with average details.
I've decided to get the 7300gt though. I'm going to get a new motherboard so I can get the PCI-express version. I know this card is slightly faster than the 6600gt, which is definitely faster than a ti4200. The only thing I'm considering is holding out for the 8300gs/gt but I'm not sure when that's coming out. |

I think you'll like that much better. The games that you play will be able to run great, and if you want a newer title, you still have that option.

Good choice.
GF6200A is only about 10% faster than GF4200, depending on the title. GF7300GT is a bit more than twice as fast as 6200A. Again, depending on the game. |

Now, i really think the card you have thought about is more than fine but if you can get the 256mb version which will be around 60-65$ it would be perfect. Have you thought about some models from ATI like the 9250 or 9550?, i think you can still find them below 70$. Keep in mind that i'm recommending this cards only if you want to save money. Greetz.

I've decided to get an E6400 conroe, a new motherboard, 1GB of 667MHz RAM and a 7600gt though since my computer is in need of a speed boost. Hopefully I'll be able to play Morrowind at some decent settings now. Thanks though everyone, you were a big help. |
