Well, I hate to disagree with you, but I've been running the betas since they hit the mirrors and they install fine here.

I will admit to not getting them to work on redhat's latest beta tho.

But they will work on mandrake. After you freshly install (not upgrade) beta4 (choosing developmental group during package selection), do not boot into X until you get the drivers set up. Use the tarballs, and run make as root.

If it still gives you problems, please post all errors and your config file.

Oh,

I installed beta 4 and I used the vesa driver in 640x480 and 8 bit color depth and it runs, but nothing else worked.

My problem is the eroor during the installation of the rpm's or tar's.
But the end is always the same: he can't install the kernel module.

If i install it again, which grafik card do I have to select during the installation?
which resolution and color depth?

Hard drake 2 detects the right card
geforce4 ti4200 but I can't change the resolution (no device found) :-(
What now?

Choose XFree86-4.2, geforce4 (or whatever your's is) generic, and as close as you can get on your monitor if it's not actually listed. You can pick any resolution you like just about, I run at 1280x1024x24.

You shouldn't have to reinstall os just for this however, log out to init3 (the cli) and as root type: XFdrake --expert --noauto and make the choices as described above.

Please make sure you have your kernel sources installed too.

Well I did it but the error is the same I got before:
can't initialize the NVdriver kernel module though I installed:
the kernel,
the kernel source
and the GLX driver.
The first error comes during the installation of the kernel.
This installation (kernel) always fails.
tar or rpm don't work.

Install the Kernel Headers, then do a "make install" in the Nvidia kernel dir.

It should not report a single error.

When you have been compiling it, has it reported any errors or none?

Download this:

http://www.icculus.org/lgfaq/files/nv_check.sh

and type "bash nv_check.sh"

It can be useful.

I did but I get the old error again:

the full server output, not just the last messages.
This can be found in the log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log". Please report problems to xfree86@xfree86.org.

Is there another way to install the kernel?
tar's and rpm's always fail :-(

On the first CD, in "/RedHat/RPMS", find the rpm called "glibc-kernheaders-2.4-7.20.i386.rpm"

and install that:

rpm -i glibc-kernheaders-2.4-7.20.i386.rpm

then run "make install" in the Nvidia folder from the tar file. It should compile with 0 errors.

I also had to install "gcc-3.2-1.i386.rpm" and on the second CD, "kernel-source-2.4.18-11.i386.rpm"
