Default Modules "bitmap", "pcidata" not found

New installation of Mandriva 2007 (kernel 2.6.17-5mdv) on MSI L730 laptop with Geforce Go 6100 card. First boot after installation gave blank screen, subsequent boots go to command line. After startx command, reports that the two modules bitmap and pcidata cannot be found, so aborts. (Annoying because a perfectly capable nvidia driver was loaded for the installation phase!). Judging by contents of /usr/lib/xorg/modules... directories, version 8774 seems to be installed.
No GUI available, so where to I go/what do I do now?

Default Re: Modules "bitmap", "pcidata" not found

Please resinstall X server by loging as a root and typing:

urpmi x11-server-common

nvidia 1.0-87XX drivers are a bit old. Try to use newer ones, but in Mandriva case drivers prepared by PLF(penguin liberation front).

I don't really think this is related to nvidia, please post your problem on Mandriva's corresponding forums or on #mandirva channel on freenode.
