Default Wii, PS3, XBOX360 Power usage

This is an extremely interesting article about the power usage of the 3 major consoles. One thing that stood out for me was the power usage when connected to WiiConnect24. looks like i'll be disabling that when I get home.

Wow, with it's monster flail of a powerbrick, I half way expected the Xbox360 to be the hungry one. I guess I should have factored in that it's brick is passive and doesn't get hot. At least mine doesn't.

edit: Why didn't he report power factor? Some companies charge for that, or give discounts if your home's PF is high.

Hmm, I had heard that WiiConnect24 actually used more power than that. Good to know, although I wonder what the disadvantage would be to turning it off. It would still connect when you wanted to check the weather or whatever, right? So you probably just wouldn't get new message notifications, and I could live without that (not a fan of the pulsing of the slot light anyway - I want to just turn it on and leave it).

Ive tried turning it off before, and you NEED it on to have the weather and news work, I think I remember it just shows the first page, but when you goto "Start" it, it needs it to be enabled, then reset. kinda lame.

Basically I found that its more of an inconvenience to have it off all the time, not that I use the channels it effects too often, but a lot of the Wii channels seem to rely on that being on 24/7.

Hmm, that's too bad. Although an extra 8.3 watts probably isn't going to make or break my electric bill considering the number of computers I have folding 24/7.

Yup, thanks here too, it saves me from trying to figure out the power usage on the ps3. I'm not suprised by the numbers at all, but it would have been interesting to see them throw in PS2 / xbox to compare against as well. I knew the PS3 was going to eat power when it says it is has a 360W PSU on the back of the console. The PS2 says it only need 90W. I'm glad that it is only taking around 200.
