I'll get that as soon as I can. In the meantime I tried an older version of the driver and it did try to go in to 1680x1050...unfortunately it freaked out and produced no signal. No amount of fiddling with modelines and clock rates helped.

Here's the bug report with "NoDFPNativeResolutionCheck" being ignored. I actually put it in a couple places to make sure it was recognized somewhere.

Here's another bug report, this time with the latest driver. "NoDFPNativeResolutionCheck" works this time but still no go with 1680x1050.

The log file says this:
(II) NVIDIA(0): Validating Mode "1680x1050":
(II) NVIDIA(0): 1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz
(II) NVIDIA(0): Mode Source: X Configuration file ModeLine
(II) NVIDIA(0): Pixel Clock : 134.00 MHz
(II) NVIDIA(0): HRes, HSyncStart : 1680, 1824
(II) NVIDIA(0): HSyncEnd, HTotal : 1904, 2032
(II) NVIDIA(0): VRes, VSyncStart : 1050, 1071
(II) NVIDIA(0): VSyncEnd, VTotal : 1081, 1103
(II) NVIDIA(0): H/V Polarity : +/+
(II) NVIDIA(0): Mode is valid.
(II) NVIDIA(0):
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Unable to use mode "1680x1050" for AOC203VW (DFP-0); cannot
(WW) NVIDIA(0): compute backend DFP timings (mode is larger than native
(WW) NVIDIA(0): backend 1400 x 1050).

So it looks like the mode is OK for the monitor but the graphics card won't go higher than 1400x1050. Oh well, back to VGA until I get a newer card.

Your custom 1680x1050 modeline is failing here:
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Unable to use mode "1680x1050" for AOC203VW (DFP-0); cannot
(WW) NVIDIA(0): compute backend DFP timings (mode is larger than native
(WW) NVIDIA(0): backend 1400 x 1050).

Please try adding the following option:
Option "ExactModeTimingsDVI" "true"

Also, it would help in debugging if you renamed that custom modeline to something unique.

Thanks,
Lonni

I had the same problem with my Geforce FX5200 putting
Option "ModeValidation" "NoMaxPClkCheck" in the xorg.conf file solved the problem for me.

Thanks everyone for your help and advice but in the end I just got a new graphics card. It's a cheap GeForce 6200 and 1680x1050 worked first go with no mucking around.
