Post Xid error report information while changing full screen resolutions

I find that I only get Xid errors (followed by an “eventual” system freeze) if I change the screen resolutions. Also using applications like games that changes the resolution (while going into full screen mode), can or will cause the same Xid error issues too.

Hardware used:-

Motherboard: Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus (BIOS=Version 0501)
CPU: Intel Core2 Duo E6600
RAM: 2x CM2x1024-6400C4 (Corsair DDR2 RAM)
Sound Card: SB Live Value [CT4670]
Monitor: SUN GDM-5510 (CRT-1)
Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce-8800-GTX (inno3D) VBIOS Version = 60.80.08.00.37

Software Used:-

Linux-2.6.21-rc5

GNU C Library stable release version 2.3.6
Available extensions:
GNU libio by Per Bothner
crypt add-on version 2.1 by Michael Glad and others
GNU Libidn by Simon Josefsson
Native POSIX Threads Library by Ulrich Drepper et al
BIND-8.2.3-T5B
NIS(YP)/NIS+ NSS modules 0.19 by Thorsten Kukuk
Thread-local storage support included.

GNU ld version 2.16.1
Supported emulations:
elf_i386
i386linux

GCC-3.4.6
Reading specs from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.4.6/specs
Configured with: ../gcc-3.4.6/configure --libexecdir=/usr/lib --enable-shared --enable-languages=c,c++,java,f77,objc,ada --enable-clocale=gnu --enable-threads=posix --enable-__cxa_atexit
Thread model: posix

Xorg-7.2.0 (70200000)

Please find attached my nvidia-bug-report for more information.

Can you please post a report if you see motherboard memory controller issues too please?

PS:-

You will find an error report about an incorrect kernel version header.

My system was built around the 2.6.16 kernel headers to run Linux-2.6.16-??. 12 months later, I had upgraded my PC from an AMD 3200+ to an Intel Core2 Duo E6600 and got a Geforce-8800-GTX (upgrade from a AGP 5900-Ultra).

I had found explict support for the Core2 Duo and the 680i (650i) chipset with Kernel-2.6.20, and had to upgrade the kernel accordingly. After the kernel upgrade I came across Xids at any moment, so I had upgraded the kernel again to Linux-2.6.21-rc5, and now only get Xids when I change full screen resolutions

EDIT ADD: I've just tryed this:- http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=58498

No log updates posted. But the very same issues happen.

Thanks
Dave

How are you changing the modes?

I use the following desktop configuration tools.

KRandRTray (Screen Resize and Rotate) [krandrtray]
Nvidia X Server settings (X Server Display Configuration) [nvidia-settings]
[gnome-display-properties]

They all cause the same Xid issue. I tested the error condition by adjusting the resolution settings, until the Xid errors appear in the kernel log.

Xid errors started when my card was dying. Eventually I saw bad pixels and more lock ups. I had to RMA the card it was so bad. No, it wasn't overclocked. Fan was working fine. Temps were good.

The nVidia reps claim Xid errors are usually not a driver issue.

Xid's can be a driver problem or something else altogether. Who at NVIDIA stated otherwise?

The nVidia reps claim Xid errors are not a driver issue, and I don't think they will be.
Are you sure that they were nvidia reps?

Sorry, I meant to post *usually not the driver. I'll edit it.
