my system:
AMD FX-60 (X2 64bits) Abit AV8-3rd Eye with latest Bios version (v28) chipset Via K8T880pro 2Gb Ram DDR Nvidia FX5600Turbo (256Mb) Audigy 2 platinum Raid PCI Kronwell Silicon Image PCI0680 chip with 4 HDD (all disabled) SO: Kubuntu Edgy 6.10 with Kernel 2.6.17-11.35-x86_64 Nvidia 1.0.9755 drivers Modprobe error to load Nvidia module (kernel oops) in installation driver from NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-9755-pkg2.run (dmesg kernel oops error)(1) rebooting system manually in Normal mode: but black screen in Xorg sesssion with "nvidia" driver. "nv" works. (no dmesg kernel oops error)(2) rebooting in Recovery mode. edit Xorg.conf for change "nv" driver to "nvidia" modprobe nvidia: kernel oops. kdm start = black screen, one "beep" in mobo speaker and system not responding (kernel panic?) rebooting system in Recovery mode (nvidia module active but no kernel opps error (3)). change "nvidia" to "nv". kdm start = X session OK (1)see dmesgbeforenvidiainstall (2)see dmesgafternvidiainstall (3)see dmesgnvidiamoduleload greetings PD: my english is not good. sorry |

Try adding these parameters to your grub startup line :
noapic nolapic Also, if this is a fresh system I can only encourage you to try out the soon-to-be-released Ubuntu 7.04. It have the latest drivers for Nvidia in the repo. |

its "working" but if active the driver NvAGP (agp=off in grub and Option NvAGP 1 in Xorg.conf). the X Crashed and add kernel notification |
