I have a Dell WS490 workstation at work that has a Quadro FX 3500 card. I know that glxgears is a bad benchmark, but if I run it as root I get 28,000 to 30,000 fps. If I run it as my userid, I get 75 fps. Attached is my bug report. I hope someone can spread some light on this problem.

75FPS suggests that you have __GL_SYNC_TO_VBLANK set.
