Man, I just can't believe this CPU has went down $150!!! That's insane! I didn't want to believe it when I read the rumors...but I am so.....happy I waited!

I haven't purchase mine yet. I'm gonna' get the new case this week ($329- expensive case), then next week I'll drop down money for the CPU and probably the mobo to.

Please keep us informed as to how well the 6000 oc's. I'm hoping to get more than 3.2GHz.

What CPU are you going with, Redeemed? Didn't you just get an Opty?

A good Opteron will overclock to about the speeds these new procs from AMD are at. Traditionally, they've been made with better silicon because they're made to run on servers. I have a friend who has one at 3.1gHz dual-prime stable. He could go even higher than that, but there's no way to increase the FSB voltage on his board.

People haven't been able to overclock these new X2s that well so far. I would take that into consideration if you're thinking of getting one. Your Opty will most likely overclock a lot better.

I'm looking to get the 6000.

Here's what I'm looking at:

Barcelona is for Opterons only and will be socket F only- but the desktop variant (for the Athlons) will be released on a new socket (AM2+) later this year. Now, these new procs will be fully compatible with socket AM2, the only setback is that they will not be able to utilise HyperTransport 2.0. Nothing major.

I'm going with the ASUS CrossHair mobo and a 6000- and when the new chips arrive (for AM2+) I'll get one of those, and later an AM2+ mobo.

And yes, I did just recently get an Opty185. Great proc, except I haven't been able to use it much. Mobo crapped out on me (ASUS A8N32 SLi Dlx). The replacement mobo should be here in a few days (Wednesday at the latest I'd imagine), so then I should be back up and running with my Opty185 and dual GTSs.

Can't wait.

This new rig based off of the X2 6000 will be a work in progress for a little while. But once done it'll become my main rig and the rig with the Opty will become my secondary rig.

Intel wont be cutting thier prices untill AMD releases either Barcelona of the desktop variant of Barcelona. I'm not wanting to wait that long, and these price drops came just at the right time for me. So the 6000 it'll be.
