Interesting thread here on the subject; your clocks you adjust on the sliders may not in fact be changing the speeds like you think they are (I have not checked this personally, but it's a reliable source).

Shader overclocking actually gives you quite a boost in performance

911 medic the person that is writing the topic you refer to couldnt be more new to Overclocking. He is obviously refering to a Rivatuner/Drivers Overclock and not a Bios overclock. Thats Mainly why i always prefer and recommend a Bios Overclock and not a Software Overclock.
Now why would a person spend all his time doing software Overclocks i dont know but like i said i dont think his best field is Overclocking. jakup hard to say since i didnt bench the card prior to oveclocking the shaders from 1250 to 1500. If anyone else wants to OC the shaders make sure you bench it first ![]()

My current 650/1900 is running great! The scores in my sig were done with card at 650/2000, but that wasn't stable.
Vagabond, you'll see more of a performance boost by overclocking your core more than you will by overclocking the memory. |

I know i will but exceeding the 600 barrier will not give me so much speed difference to take the risk.
And i ment that before you Overclock your Shaders bench your systems not before normal overclock. Either way with your 19 inch monitor im sure the 8800 was enough even in stock speeds.

BIOS overclocking a CPU is a different story, as the settings are easily adjustible. Repeatedly flashing my video card's BIOS to overclock it seems ridiculous. Perhaps I'm misreading something in your post. But I think you should check into the person you're talking about before making such a statement.

I used rivatuner for quit a while its a nice peace of kit! ..... the good this about bios overclocking though(for me anyway) is that flashing to the lates bios allowed for higher overclocking, also as far as im aware you cannot overclock the shader clock with rivatuner, also bios overclocking mean your overclock will be safe no matter what, formatt or using vista! .... its just means you dont have to mess with a 3rd party overclocking tool at all.
I have mine at Clock core: 600MHz, Shader Clock 1450MHz & Memory at 1.9GHz got a nice boots in games and 3DMark06(see bottom of sig) and it sits idle at 51c and under load maxes at around 70c max with arctic silver 5 applied, i could go past these speeds i just dont like to!

911 , A serious Overclocker would open a topic and speak about BOTH the normal Rivatuner/Coolbits/Powerstrip Overclock AND the Bios Overclock so everyone would know what applies in each case.
He didnt and thus people who read the topic like yourself are guessing that the same restrictions apply for BIOS overclocking. I hope you understand now.

![]() TBH, "guessing that the same restrictions apply for BIOS overclocking" never occurred to me, because the only time I've had to flash a video card BIOS to overclock is on my laptop...until somebody unlocked the BIOS so it could be overclocked via software. BIOS flashing to overclock my desktop video card wasn't even on my radar. Now, if his assertions are true in that post (and I think they are), perhaps more users will turn to BIOS flashing for their overclocking needs.

Well i wasnt aware that a topic should only refer to the "majority" out there and not to everyone.

Forget I said anything. You're right. He can't possibly be a "serious" overclocker since he didn't mention BIOS overclocking of video cards. Thank God we've laid that to rest.
