I found a deal on a store that is selling socket 939 X2 3800+ OEM's, and I was wondering if my single core socket 939 Winchester heatsink/fan would fit on this socket 939 X2 3800+ Manchester?

Yes 939 sinks are physically co-dependent to the socket type not the CPU. However, the thermal characteristics on the X2 are higher.

Yes, i did put my oem X2 cooler on the 3200+ cpu on my HTPC. Works great in that little case, around 30-40șC & very quiet.

I couldn't find any great pics of what is on the 3800+ X2 or 3200+, but here is the X2 http://www.xsreviews.co.uk/reviews/c...am2-3800-x2/2/ I think it looks to me like the 3200+ fins don't go all the way to the fan, where as the fins on the X2 look longer, but I can't really tell from the pics. I don't have a digicam, or I'd snap a pic of my box cooler. There are about 32 fins, at 1" length, and the base is 1/2" thick. The fan has 9 blades to it. The fins do taper down at the edges, so it might be the same cooler. Here is a 3200+ (I think) with retail, and it does look identical to my X2. http://www.ildorado.ru/images/produc...amd-d19803.jpg |

I let a friend borrow my Opteron 185 and he is using the stock cooler that came with his A64 3500. I have the Opty downclocked to 2.4Ghz, but it is staying plenty cool (using AS5 though).
So, it might actually work. That Opteron is essentially an FX-60 with locked multipliers, and if the stock cooler for a 3500 is sufficient for that proc, I see no reason why your cooler wont work with an X2 3800. I'd go for it. In a heart beat. ![]() |
