Cool in win, 80+ Celcius in Linux - Go 6150
So,
I ran Windows for a while (Until I hit the "wall" of its usefullness) so I nuked it an d I am running linux on my HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop. Well, something is different enough between the two OS's that now my graphics card (Geforce Go 6150) is burning up anywhere around 80 to 90c! (No, it is not overclocked) I have not changed position or moved or anything - the only difference is the operating system. Any ideas - is there a speed throttling program or anything I can do to tone it down? I don't run super-duper quake III or anything. Oh, I also ran it on the regular NV drivers and it STILL gets hot. Please help, my palm is starting to get 2nd degree burns! |

I would also like to know whats going on with this;
I never even turned on my acer 9300 with go6100 with winsucks, so I figured up to now that 78 was the normal temperature. I do NOT notice any high temperatures in the casing - seems nice and cool everywhere. Is this number being correctly reported? If it is, then what is the safe limit for this chip and is there anything to do to lower it? |

This is probably a straw grasp but is it maybe a possible coincidence that the fan on your gpu may have started to crap out at about the time you made the switch? Have you opened up your case and checked to make sure the fan is spinning well and free of dust?
Also are you actually experiencing any problems related to the temp? |

This GF 6150 is in a laptop. My wife has the same laptop and runs windows. Hers does not get hot at all! I could about fry an egg on mine.
Kind of disheartening. |

I would really appreciate an answer to this. There must be a developer that knows the specs. I too never ran windows on this HP dv2000 lappy but my Nvidia monitor shows it running 68-72 at idle and a little over 100 while running Q3.
This is on the latest driver. |
