i installed the 100.14.03 beta driver and the first thing i got is a
lockup when i ran glxgears ![]() well i rebooted and started e.g. world of warcraft and i found out that the framerate dropped significantly. also the grafical glitches i get only with my 8800gts are present too. PS: dont get confused fromt he nvidia-bug-report.log i installed the beta driver via my distribution package so it isnt listed there i added also a glxinfo to show that the driver is installed properly PPS: i disabled vertex and pixleshaders in wine (for d3d-mode) due stefan doesingers recommendation then the glitches were gone but the performance is really crappy |

I have an 8800GTS and don't get any lockups while running glxgears.
Tomorrow I'll tell you if I see any performance drops in WoW, but I use OpenGL while I understand you use D3D. |

I just tried to install 100.14.03 beta using the install script from NVIDIA (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.03-pkg2.run), but when the X server tries to start, it says the driver version is 100.14.03 but that the kernel module doesn't match the version and refuses to start. i tried reinstalling 4 times, all appeared successful but all turned out with the same failure to load X. I reverted to driver 1.0-9755 and everything works again.
Running Kubuntu 7.04 x86_64 (kernel 2.6.20-15-generic), EVGA GeForce 8800GTS w/640MB, Core 2 Duo E6600, 2GM SDRAM. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |

If you want to change the driver version without rebooting, you have to do "rmmod nvidia" first. |

Well, I got brave. I rebooted, went to "telinit 3" as the installer requested, unloaded nvidia, stopped X and kdm. In the end, same result. Reinstalling 9755 worked fine, as I have several updated previously. Through all the previous updates, I haven't encountered this issue before. Seems that there's a problem with NVIDIA's script, perhaps it doesn't work with the new kernel for ubuntu 7.04 (feisty).
EDIT: I just looked in the Appendix to the README file and noticed that the 8800 cards are not listed as supported! Don't know if that's an oversight or there's some other issue there. |

As a follow up from the previous discussion regarding reduced frame rates in World Of Warcraft - and probably everywhere but I don't play other games - I can confirm that there is significant reduction of about 10fps with this beta driver compared to 9755, also glxgears from about 21000 drops to 16000.
When possible it would be nice a NVidia rep to comment on this. My system configuration is Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz + 8800GTS 320MB . Thx |

Hey. I'm getting corruption with these new drivers as well in glxgears.
Framerates aren't really affected much, but it alternates between working, having rendering artifacts and failing to draw completely (ie, resulting in a black window) I haven't rebooted yet, so it could just be that the driver didn't handle the upgrade too well. |

False alarm. reboot seems to have cleared it up.

@Tanker Bob: please see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=72490; if the Ubuntu specific suggestions in this thread don't help, please generate/attach an nvidia-bug-report.log file (see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=46678).

I greatly appreciate your time. Looks like I have some work to do to resolve this on my end. BTW, I bought the 8800GTS card for my new PC build two weeks ago because of NVIDIA's great support to Linux users. Thank you for continuing to support the Linux community. I realize that there are some FOSS purists who hound your company and others, but the bulk of the Linux community I see on the various forums greatly appreciate your support and understand/honor your intellectual property rights. Please keep up your great work and pass this post on to your fellows and leadership there at NVIDIA. The 8800GTS is an awesome achievement, and it runs great under Linux! |

well this problem appears in ogl and d3d mode of world of warcraft since the first
working 8800 driver (97.55). I tested it also with a 6800gt (my old card) and there the problem is not existent and also the performance is much better. so there has to be a driver bug. |
