Default Compiling the driver for the GeForce 7600GS under Etch

Hello,

I have a NVidia GeForce 7600GS installed in my system. As I want to use my two monitors separately. I have to install the nvidia driver.

I downloaded the package (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.03-pkg2.run) (Yes, I have an AMD64 system) and executed it as root.

After some Problems I did the following:
1) apt-get install linux-sources make gcc
2) (in /usr/src/linux after unpacking): make mrproper oldconfig prepare

That worked well and since here, there were no problems.

When I now try to execute the installer of the driver, the module compiles till 100% and then aborts with an error.

I attaches the output of the installer script.

Can anybody tell me, what was wrong? How can I solve the problem?

Thak you in advance

Christian

Looks like your kernel sources are incomplete:
/bin/sh: scripts/genksyms/genksyms: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden

Hello,

I've also found this line. But I do not know:
a) If the mentioned file is part of the kernel tree or part of the driver installation archive
b) What I can do against. Is there only a package missing?

Thanks in advance
Christian

PS:
Sorry, I was away these days, so could not answer.

genksyms is part of the kernel source, its not part of the NVIDIA driver. You need to contact whomever provided your kernel for assistance.
