Default How to match up Nvidia kernel and GF 7400 driver?

Geforce Go 7400, Ubuntu Fiesty
Failed install after several attempts (X fail screen)
Says kernel module and X kernel driver are different version -so not working together. Which driver should I use? How can I tell what dependencies are needed? Any commands to tell me what is installed?
Feisty seems go come with Legacy 1.0-7184 kernel by default.
How to change?
