Angry GeForce 6200 Problem with Ubuntu Feisty

Hi,

I tried 9755, but it won't work (log attached). Whenever X starts, both of my LCD screens blanks out (they are _not_ in power saving mode according to the indicator LEDs). When this occurs, I cannot Ctrl+Alt+Fx to switch virtual console, nor can I Ctrl+Alt+Backspace to kill the X server. The only way to "recover," was to use the RSEIUB trick to reboot my whole system. Therefore, the log file attached was generated on the next boot into console.

I also tried 9631, but it exhibited the exact same problem. (I accidentally overwrote the log file, so I cannot show it here.) The symptom was exactly the same as 9755's.

I now fall back to 9629 driver, which is so far the "latest" driver that works on my system, though there are other problems:

- Stability: X occasionally hangs when GPU usage is high. When this occurs, my secondary monitor's image is distorted (vertically stretched), and I cannot kill the X server or switch virtual console. Only the RSEIUB trick can reboot my system.

- Extremely slow X. Any UI activity can easily boost Xorg process' CPU usage to 15-40%. For UI-intensive applications like Firefox, Xorg + firefox-bin can virtually take up 100% of my CPU power whenever a web page is being loaded.

Does anybody has any suggestion on how I can possibly tackle these problems? TIA!

Which sticky posts are you referring to? I did read some of those relevant posts (at least I think they are relevant) and follow the instructions. But I've not been able to solve the problems I described above.

Any more ideas?

Does this problem persist with the 100.14.03 beta driver?
Does this problem persist if you set NvAGP to 0 in xorg.conf ?
Does this problem persist if you remove *all* the driver options from xorg.conf ?
Have you verified that you're using the latest motherboard BIOS?

I haven't tried the 100.14.03 driver yet, since I do not prefer beta drivers in general. But as you mentioned, maybe I shall try it to see how it fares...

This didn't help 9631 or 9755 driver to work.

Neither does this help 9631 or 9755 driver.

Yes. There is not more update for my motherboard's BIOS, according to MSI's web site.
