Default Can't set the resolution for my projector

Hello all,

I have a BenQ W100 projector and am based in the UK (don't know if that
affects anything with refresh rates etc).

I had a stab at setting mod lines last night using these resources:
http://xtiming.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/xtiming.pl
http://koala.ilog.fr/cgi-bin/nph-colas-modelines
but couldn't get anything to work.

This is my xorg.conf file:

Section "ServerLayout"

But restarting gdm (tried rebooting as well) just takes me back in at
800x600 which is squashed into 16/9
(I don't know why Ubuntu thinks I have a wacom .. I probably should
remove those lines, but focusing on the resolution at the moment).

The native resolution of this monitor is 845x480 (480P), but I've not
heard of anyone getting that resolution out of Linux. I've heard good
things from people managing to get an excelent image by inputting HD
resolutions which is why I tried the above mod lines.

I also tried this in my xorg:

Monitor "BenQ W100"
# DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"

EndSubSection
EndSection

But none of those mod lines seemed to work either.

Here's some info from the back of my projector's manual:

I'm connecting to the projector via DVI-D

Please excuse the amount of information. Just trying to give all I have.
Any ideas on sorting this out?

Cheers

Your modelines are completely off, please read some other threads about this same topic (problems with HD TV and HD modelines).
When that does not solve it, please read the "If you have a problem, PLEASE read this first" topic.

Thanks for that pe1chl,

I'm away for the weekend now but will try that when I get back. I was dubious about just putting someone elses HD modlines into my xorg.conf file as that's for their display, not mine. I got those modelines from moedline generators using values specific to my projector, but I'll do the searches you suggest and try again.

Cheers
Damian

Modelines for HD are for the timing of HDTV standards (1080i, 720p) not for your display or projector.
The modeline generator you use is not for generating a standard TV modeline but for a computer monitor that uses different timing.
When the first number in the modeline is not 74.25 I can guarantee you that it is wrong.
