Why the hell would you use telnet? It is beyond obsolete. Try SSH instead. Besides, the windows telnet client is sh*tty, if you must have a telnet client then use putty, which also includes an even nicer SSH client.

Getting pissed off at windows not including telnet is like getting pissed off that the new house you bought doesn't include sh*t in its toilets, you just have to add your own.

Manual SMTP interaction: telnet [host] 25
Manual HTTP interaction: telnet [host] 80
Manual IMAP/POP interaction: telnet [host] 143/110
Basic port discovery (without need for netcat): telnet [host] [dport]

Many people dont' use telnet.exe only for telnet, to assume so is obtuse.

Why would you do any of these with an ordinary telnet client? There are much better tools for these.

I'm really not trying to be hostile but what are you talking about? A telnet client is pretty damn basic and aside from something like netcat name something else that's as quick and easy for raw socket interaction?

I've already said this once but...there is a telnet client in Vista. You have to choose to install it.

Edit: Notice that there is a TFTP client as well.

At least you can install it, so that's not too bad.

I am ashamed of EU, and being part of this left-wing repression. It reminds me of communism, which I truly hated 20+ years ago (as a small kid) in my own country. Microsoft is too successful, so EU has to ask some money from them, based on made-up cases and silly reasons.

Apple is allowed to distribute iTunes in OS X, Microsoft is not allowed to do the same in Windows. Why? Just because Microsoft has more money has to be given less rights?

Microsoft is successful, and some left-wing bitches in EU cannot stand this, they want "their" share (of Microsoft money)...
