Problem for installing nvidia drivers on gentoo

Hi,

I dont manage to install the NVIDIA driver anymore ...

In root, when I execute the script NVIDIA-Linux-version-.pkg1.run, I receive this error : ./nvidia-installer: Permission denied ...

My kernel is 2.6.17.3.

In the log file of nvidia-installer, I have that : unable to load: nvidia-installer ncurses user interface ...

Formerly, I hadn't had this kind of problem.

I would be glad if someone could advice me ...

ADVICE:

DO NOT use the installer.

Use the ebuilds.

There are ebuilds for several driver releases, even the latest ones.

With all the patches needed.

So just emerge the driver, do eselect set opengl nvidia
and edit your xrog.conf.

DO NOT USE THE INSTALLER!

Several apps won't compile against the nvidia driver's libs, so beeing able to switch between opengl implimentations is a nice bonus.

AGAIN:

DO NOT USE THE INSTALLER USE THE EBUILDS!

Mmmm, Minor problem, the legacy drivers aren't updated any more. As a newbee to Gentoo, I am in a similar situation. Unfortunately the legacy drivers of Gentoo fail to work with my card an the X server crashes with wine. I need wine for my work. Bummer. Maybe I must check out what it takes to support a Gentoo package and maintain the legacy nvidia drivers.
