Default Trouble using on board graphics card as secondary graphics card

Hi, I am trying to get two X Screens working with the primary card being a GeForce 7600 GS 512mb PCI Express, and the secondary card being the onboard graphics (GeForce 6100) on an ASROCK K8NF4G-VSTA motherboard (amd athlon 64). This works if I switch the primary card to be the onboard one in the BIOS setup, but I would like to get it working with the better card as the primary card. This is proving to be a bit tricky.

I dual boot Windows and Ubuntu (Dapper). The set up works fine in Windows. In Ubuntu it works fine with the worse card as the primary card, but otherwise only one X screen works. In the X Log file the lines

Code:
(EE) NVIDIA(1): The requested configuration of display devices (CRT-0) in
(EE) NVIDIA(1): MetaMode "1024x768+0+0" is not supported on this GPU.
(EE) NVIDIA(1): The requested configuration of display devices (CRT-0) in
(EE) NVIDIA(1): MetaMode "800x600+0+0" is not supported on this GPU.
(EE) NVIDIA(1): The requested configuration of display devices (CRT-0) in
(EE) NVIDIA(1): MetaMode "640x480+0+0" is not supported on this GPU.
(WW) NVIDIA(1):
(WW) NVIDIA(1): Unable to validate any modes; falling back to the default mode
(WW) NVIDIA(1): "nvidia-auto-select".

(EE) NVIDIA(1): GPU.
(EE) NVIDIA(1): Unable to use default mode "nvidia-auto-select".
seem to indicate the problem. Another symptom is that restarting X or starting X twice without rebooting in between sessions causes the system to hang. The X log when this happens ends with the following ominous lines:

Code:
(II) Loading sub module "int10"
(II) LoadModule: "int10"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libint10.so
(II) Module int10: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
	compiled for 7.0.0, module version = 1.0.0
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 0.8
(II) Attempted to read BIOS 0KB from /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:00:05.0/rom: got 0KB
This looks like it might be the result of my bad use of the UseInt10Module option, which I thought might help.

I am not particularly worried about making full use of the onboard graphics card, just getting it to work with a separate X screen would be fine.

One particularly strange an difficult to replicate behaviour is that if I _can_ get X to restart at all, then the second screen works well. I think I acheived this by changing the driver of the second screen to nv, restarting gdm, and then changing it back to nvidia and restarting gdm again.

I have attached a .tar.gz with the following files:
nvidia-bug-report.log
xorg.conf
Xorg.0.log.unsupgpu - the log file generated when X server starts without the second X screen
Xorg.0.log.verbosefail - the log file generated when X server fails to start

I think this is all the important information, let me know if anything's missing.

Cheers,

Joe
