Default AGP is unstable for legacy 7184

Hi.

I have a RIVA TNT2 Model 64 and am using the Debian etch legacy driver (version 1.0.7184-3). I'm using kernel 2.6.18.
The CPU is a single, solitary Intel P4. The

The system is fine using either the nvidia driver with option NvAGP=0 or the nv driver i.e. without AGP. However, it is unstable when using either APGART (with NvAGP=2) or the NVIDIA AGP driver (with NvAGP=1).

X freezes up and I get messages like this in /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

(WW) NVIDIA(0): WAIT (2, 6, 0x8000, 0x000093e0, 0x00003390, 1)

as well as this from dmesg:

NVRM: Xid: 6, PE0000 03fc 00000000 00000010 00696969 00000000

AGP was working before I upgraded to etch from sarge (kernel 2.4.27).

The nvidia card is sharing an IRQ with an (unused) usb2.0 hub.

I have attached the bug report file. I have tried re-compiling the nvidia driver to restrict it to 2x AGP instead of 4x and this did not help.

I would appreciate any help I can get.

Based on the information that you've provided it appears unlikely that this is an nvidia driver bug. You could retest with 1.0-7185, however beyond that, you'd need to pursue the kernel or motherboard as the source of this instability.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Your advice was good. I opened the box and found 10 bulging or leaking capacitors on the motherboard. I won't bother testing 1.0-7185.

Your help was much appreciated.
