Question PS2 scaling problem on Samsung LCD 32" 16:9

I use 3rd party good quality component cables. I understand that the tv does some kind of upscaling or upconverting of 480i signals to 720p. When I play older non-progressive scan games like Gran Turismo 3 and Killzone the entire picture is jagged and nasty looking. When i run games that do support progressive scan but leave it off, the picture looks fine (no jaggies). Its the same scaling issue that the PS3 is having with ps2 games. What i am trying t figure out is what is the source of the problem. Is it the game itself? The way my TV is handing the signal, which i doubt because certain non-progressive games dont have the problem. Oh and when i use svideo cable the jaggies go away. please any input would be great. thanks.

Could be your cables if swapping the cables fixes the issue but I don't see how you are getting any HD resolution when using SVideo Cables though...

Your not, so I'm wondering if that has something to do with it. S-video should be showing in 480i. My guess is that maybe it has something to do with widescreen versus 4:3. I don't see how a game that CAN support progressive but isn't using it is any different than a game that is interlaced. Both types should be running 480i if it is a PS2 game since most of them cannot do anything above that. (ie 1080i) Maybe the tv itself handles the component differently? If your not running progressive then there isn't really a reason to use the component cables anyway since s-video will give just as good of a picture.

On the PS3 I would try turning on the scaler as well as off as it might be making things worse on certain titles when it is on.

how come the svideo doesnt have scaling problems and the component does?
We're talking interlaced of course.
