I used to run OSX on my last build just for the sake of doing it. Functionally wise though, its rather pointless.

It's like using a wheelchair when your legs work just fine, so now you can't use the stairs to get to the rest of your house.

Linux runs more games/apps that you'd probably use than OSX does, so if you just want to try an alternative OS, use linux instead of OSX.
Want to listen to audio without your computer going to sleep? Try this.

Core i7 2600k 4.4Ghz 1.385v | Corsair H60 | 8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 8-8-8-24 | MSI P67A-G45 | OCZ Vertex 3 | Sapphire 7850 OC to Max settings

Linux. Especially if you run an NV card, the driver support is phenominal.

I use vista now for my primary OS as certain apps required for my new job will not run under linux, and many hours a week are now spent working from home. I've also found Vista to be incredibly stable and a pleasure to use.

That said, with distros like Ubuntu having become mainstream now, there's not a reason under the sun to spend a penny unless your a hardcore gamer.

The Ubuntu and NV dev teams will have beryl (which puts Aero to shame) sorted out, and with a bit of a learning curve you won't find any more customizable OS.
