Great PC addon device! Needs USB 2.0 and a fast CPU (Athlon X2 3800+ or Intel Dual Core). HDCP compliant videocard/monitor also necessary for some HD DVD playback software like PowerDVD Ultra.

Ever? Who knows. Right now, Disney and Sony do not support HD DVD like Universal and Weinstein don't support Blu-Ray, however that can easily change in the future if HD DVD reaches critical mass.

Either way, $129 is not a huge investment.

Why dont they make an internal? can you remove the housing?

You can remove it, but the drive is slightly wider than a standard PC drive and it has a circuit board on the back around 1.5" long.
