Default Re: New Receiver on the way!

I just bought a Pioneer VSX-816-K today at best buy myself. I am probably working on a lower budget than most of you guys though, lol. My goal here is just for a receiver that produces nice accurate 5.1 sound mostly for games on my PC and occasional movie watching. Nothing overly loud, and no video functions (no dvd, switching, etc, as I really don't need these.)

Anyways, I am in a similar predicament: I am trying to figure out what speakers to buy for this. I am currently building a new sound system to replace a "home theater in a box" I bought way back in 2002. I've already spent $250 of my $750 budget which I am thinking of maybe overspending by a hundred or so.

I've decided to say f*ck HDMI for audio for the next few years. I think that like most digital audio technologies, it is going to be grossly underutilized in the consumer space for quite some time. So much more potential than spdif/toslink/adat, yet at the same time so useless.

FWIW I just returned the Pioneer and went and picked up the Onkyo 605 instead. Turns out that CircuitCity is selling it for $369 right now, which is within my budget range. This decision was also influenced by the fact that the Auzentech Prelude will probably have HDMI support via an extension board, and this receiver is capable of processing every HDMI audio function that currently exists, including 8 channel LPCM 192/24. Hopefully 7.1 LPCM support will be included in the preludes feature set. If so, that would be the holy grail of sound cards.

FWIW the deal I got last night just expired - but - you can still get a similar deal if you take advantage of the current offer, and use coupon code SAAQMA7AL9 at checkout. I think its like $404 after that. Still a very good price for this receiver, and you get free shipping right now too (though I prefer in store pickup.)

Anybody who has already bought an Onkyo 605 probably shouldn't read this as they'll probably be pissed off.

When I went into circuit city to pick this up, I also brought in a 10% off audio coupon found here and somehow or another the cashier turned that into $75 off of what I paid online (I am certain she made a calculation error somewhere as she had to do it by hand.) She was probably a manager too as I doubt one can get this kind of price drop without some kind of manager password.
