Default Re: 7400 GO blank screen!

Alright, I used a few workarounds to fix the Ubuntu bug. First was that I believe the newest version of the restricted manager filles /lib/linux-restricted-modules/nvidia_new was moved to /lib/llinux-restricted-modules/2.6.22-7-generic/nvidia_new, so I deleted that folder. Second was that I accidently added DISABLED_MODULES="nv nvidia_new" to /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules when I had linux-restricted-modules-common so I added that line to /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common. The third was that I removed all lines referencing Nvidia in /etc/modprobe.d/lrm-video. After doing this I reinstalled the nvidia drivers, and did startx, resulting in the same black screen. However this time I generated a an nvidia-bug-report.log, and it appeared to be running the correct version of the drivers this time, not Ubuntu's version. I'm thinking this means the problem is no longer due to Ubuntu's driver manager.
Could you take a look at the new logs?

Thanks,
Ian

I forgot to add something. After doing this when i tried to switch back to the nv driver I had the same black screen problem, except if I pressed a button on my keyboard a blue box popped up telling me the xserver failed to start. However, once I did nvidia-installer --uninstall the nv driver worked again. Before I had no problems switching back to the nv driver. I hope this helps diagnose the problem.

It looks like X is hanging. Have you verified that you're using the latest BIOS?

I will try updating them. Hmm, the only BIOS updates HP provides for dv8000 come in the form of a windows executable. Am I safe to run this in wine? Hmm, probably not. Guess I'm going to have to install windows.
