X8600 isn't an easy one, have one too, had a hart time getting it stabe on 3.6GHz. Despite it being stable, I'm not happ with the vcore, in my opinion it's way too high and I'm on water (v1.50).

On the Striker it seems to get alot more stable at 1.5v. Most of the benchmark tests u see on the web run at 1.5v too.

As long as it's not getting too hot (over 62deg) it shouldn't be a problem. I've seen some people running these at 1.6v, which does seem too high.

With water cooling too, I should not worry.

I tried overclocking the Q6600 and was not at all impressed. It really doesn't like high FSB speeds. No matter what I tried it would only run at 2.4 (standard) or 3.0+. It got VERY hot at this speed, straight to 70 deg + so i've sold it to a mate who's building a rig for converting video files. Which it was very good at. I was hoping it would run with a 1680 FSB but it wouldn't get anywhere near. My memory bandwidth dropped from 8.2gbps to 5.1gbps, and the game performance suffered badly. I lost over 1000 points in each of the 3DMark 06 graphics tests.

I'm PO cos I was hoping to have a quad core for when HL2 Ep2 comes out.

I just got my Motherboard and CPU back from the RMA. Having upgraded to the SilverStone ST1000 Watt PSU has made everything so much easier. I've got the VCore Voltage set at 1.35V and I'm overclocked at 3.45GHZ~!!!!!
My video card is set stock overclocked "EVGA 8800 GTX KO Edition" My memory is blazing fast at 1066MHz!!! I'm glad I own an Asus Striker Extreme 680i Mothrboard. It's well worth the price.

Default Re: Intel Core 2 X6800 Won't OC passed 3.21Ghz

Update reported: CPU temp reading at 24c @ 3.46GHz with VCore Voltage at 1.30V I love water cooling!
Now throw me a NVIDIA 9800 GTX with a water block and I'm set. What the hell was I thinking with only a weak ass 600 Watt PSU trying to pump all those sweet hardware devices.
I'm glad I didn't go SLI for now because only gaining X2 the performance is pointless when your going to end up playing games that are over a year old like F.E.A.R. Good game, but regardless it would be just a waste.

I was wondering if my Intel X6800 has the Enhanced speedstep feature intergrated into it? because it shows it disabled in the system bios.

It only works if the Extreme Tweaker is set to Auto

Okay, I see...I won't be using it then because I've got the processor and memory timing all adjusted so no SpeedStep for me now....

Default Re: Intel Core 2 X6800 Won't OC passed 3.21Ghz

That's a good OC for the volts. I've recently found out that if I manually set the vCore, v-droop can cause instability under full load. But if I set the vCore to 'Auto' it still sets it-self to 1.5v but there's no droop. It's totally steady at 1.5v in PC-Probe. Mine runs perfectly now and the infuriating POST fail problem has gone!

Although, the E6600's need more volts than the Q6600's as a rule. So if you've got it fully stable at that voltage I should stick to that. I should think if you put yours on 'Auto' it'll up the core to 1.5v and cause alot more heat.
