If I can remember right, I think that Vista almost ran my resources 2x as hard than XP does.
Actually my older PC (AMD 3200, 1.5 GB Ram, GeForce 6800 GS 256 MB) runs Battlefield 2142 on Vista fairly well. I'd imagine Half-Life 2 and other source engine games would run fairly well (I had run them on that computer during the beta and they seemed to work well). It more than likely is a little slower than XP, but probably not by much.

64bit version does and 4GB makes thing much smoother...Trust me, Vista loves 4gb of RAM.

Just in CSS, I got 101FPS on the stress test, where as in Vista, I got 63FPS. In HL2, just about the same thing. The only other problem is that the games in Vista would stutter and hesitate every now and then, until you exited the game and it took quite a while for the system to stabilize.

Just with what happened and the performance I got, I don't see any reason to switch to Vista until I get a whole new rig.

I wonder if the inq thinks they can just single handedly force this issue to happen?? It would be nice if it were true though.

Was that a while ago with old drivers? The drivers have come a long way. Was that Vista RTM as well?

I can just see it now. MS will release an updated DX, not called DX10 - but it will allow DX10 features in XP. There will be a PR release that will tell gamers - Vista should be your OS of choice, but for those that dont want to upgrade their OS now you will be able to enjoy the benefits of DX10 on XP.

Yea, it's gonna happen... just like that
