Can and dev give an indication if the new nvidia drivers will support paravirt_ops in the new 2.6.21 kernels? Currently it doesn't from what we can see.
Is this feature coming, and if so, will all the drivers, or just the latest, have it? Currently tested 2.6.21 kernels have to have this disabled to install nvidia drivers. |

current 2.6.20 linux kernel in debian/unstable does not work because of this [driver v1.0-9755]:
Code:
[...]
Building modules, stage 2.
make -f /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.20-1-k7/scripts/Makefile.modpost
scripts/mod/modpost -m -i /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.20-1-k7/Module.symve
rs -I /tmp/selfgz5622/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1/usr/src/nv/Module.symve
rs -o /tmp/selfgz5622/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1/usr/src/nv/Module.symve
rs -w /tmp/selfgz5622/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1/usr/src/nv/nvidia.o
FATAL: modpost: GPL-incompatible module nvidia.ko uses GPL-only symbol 'para
virt_ops'
got it working using instructions from here: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=87541 |

i did these steps (v1.0.9755):
2. Modifiy "modpost" in order to accept non-GPL modules (slightly different however: i recompiled the linux-kbuild-2.6.20 debian package) unpack nvidia-driver (using "-x"), run ./nvidia-installer -K 4. Manually define the missing symbol entry for "paravirt_ops" 5. Install the nvidia kernel module |

For the sake of posterity, this problem should be resolved in Linux 2.6.22.

Posterity here...
Compiled 2.6.22-1-k7 Debian ahead of the binaries... Straight install of NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9631-pkg1.run. No problems! Regards, Hugo Vanwoerkom |
