Default Installing NFORCE drivers for recent Linux distro: RHEL 5/OEL 5

NICs do no not work in RHEL 5/OEL 5 for nForce 680i SLI/680i LT SLI (Striker Extreme) with standard install. SATA/graphics for 8800GTX SLI work fine.

Does or will http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_nforce_1.21.html drivers get the NICs to work?

Hints on install?

Thanks…

Probably not.

I recently discovered that the NIC on my brand new GeForce7025/nForce630a does not work with CentOS 5. It would appear that support for my NIC appeared around 2.6.20 while CentOS is using 2.6.18.

From what I can gather, the nforce drivers from nvidia's site are no longer the way to go since the mainline kernel (at least new enough ones) have support for everything in the nforce chipsets.

The only easy solution is to wait for someone to backport support into CentOS/RHEL's 2.6.18 kernel ...

I might even give that a try sometime soon if I can manage to squeeze out some free time. It should be a pretty trivial backport, mainly just adding the PCI IDs to the right spots, but I don't do linux kernel devel very much so I could be wrong.

Found the solution at:

"Try to add this line on your modprobe.conf:

"options forcedeth msi=0 msix=0

"then unload and reload the driver
(rmmod forcedeth, modprobe forcedeth)"

Thanks!

If disabling MSI and MSIX fixes the problem, then you're hitting a BIOS bug.

It's not just the ASUS Striker Extreme, see:

That doesn't make it any less of a BIOS bug. MSI & MSIX are motherboard/BIOS features which forcedeth uses.
