1680x1050 resolution?

Currently running Fedora 7 . I recently installed a new Samsung Monitor (SyncMaster 204BW 16:9) . I have an Nvidia FX-5200 graphics card and am running the current Nvidia driver(100.14.11). The monitor manual says the best resolution to run is 1680x1050. Unfortunately i cannot get the driver to display this resolution. So far the best I can get is 1280x1024. the problem with this resolution is that the icons are all stretched and look terrible . I have tried a mode line with the 1680x1050 resolution but it just seems to ignore it and use 1280x1024. So I would appreciate any help in getting the 1680x1050 resolution to work. Here is my xorg.conf file

Tweak this setting in your xorg.conf, device/nvidia section:

    Option "DPI" "96 x 96"

Whig thanks for the reply. I tried the DPI at 84 x84 and made no difference. In my xorg.0 log file it has an entry "(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "1680x1050"; removing." Do you or anyone else know what this means beyond the obvious. Thanks

1680x1050@60Hz has a pixel clock beyond the FX5200 capabilities, AFAIK.
Since it requires around 146.00MHz against the 135.00MHz the card is designed to do.
There are some solutions, I actually run such a resolution on a FX5200.
One is to convince the driver to use exactly the timing you want, regardless of everything else. This might or might not work, depending on your luck. Eventually it might also be dangerous for the card LVDS driver.
Usually, options like "IgnoreClock" and/or "UseExactDVITimings" or whatever are they called (check the docs, I do not remember by hard) will do the trick.

The other solution is to use, if supported by the monitor, a reduced blanking modeline, like:

Modeline "1680x1050_60.00_rb" 119.00 1680 1728 1760 1840 1050 1053 1059 1080 +Hsync -VSync

Also in this case, probably, you'll need to convince the driver, but, if the monitor supports this, you'll run the card below 135.00MHz.

Final note, the 1680x1050 square pixels resolution is 16:10, not 16:9, if you watch movies this might be an important difference.
