Default "Out of range!" after installing the drivers

Heya,
I installed openSuSE on my pentium4 3.2ghz with 6800GT graphics card. However, after I restart the X-server, it says "out of range".
I can set the resolution to something lower like 800x600 by editing the xorg.conf file, which works, and then once I log in I can change the resolution back to 1240x1024, but only at refresh rates 50-59... (I should be able to get 75).

I made the logs, but can't locate the problem. Hopefully somebody in here will have more expertise...

I have uploaded them to http://88.198.23.119/~nef because they were too big;

Try commenting out all the modelines in xorg.conf. If that fixes the problem, please report this bug to NOVELL/SuSE.

still out of range.
From experience I know that windows lets me select 1280x1024 @ 76Hz, which also gives out of range. Might it be that it choses this one instead of 75Hz? When I set the VertRefresh to 43-75 instead of 43-76, I still get "out of range". Whats the difference between refresh rate en vertRefresh/HorizSync?
How do the modelines work? When I comment them, except for 1, the selected one still doesn't load. The only thing that makes my X server work, is changing Modes in section screen for the default depth. I can chose lower resolutions than 1280x1024 - they all work.

Any hints?

Try explicitly requesting the following mode (instead of "1280x1024"):
"1280x1024_72"

works, even for 75 hz. However, when I go to the screenconfigurationwindow, the drop down box has the refresh rate set standard to 50 Hz and I can chose to set it, maximally, on 56 Hz.
Is there anyway to check the current refreshrate?

Lots of thanks for the help & log file updated.

*update: already found how to see it: nvidia-settings -q RefreshRate It was in the third logs, but never in the second or first! It probably tried to load 76 Hz. Thanks!

Which "screenconfigurationwindow" are you referring to?

Its hard to tell because I don't use an English OpenSuSE installation

The one when you right click on the desktop, then choose customizing desktop, the monitor. You can also choose resolution there.
So it displays 50 there, but when I do nvidia-settings -q RefreshRate, it says my rate is @ 75.02 Hz =)

That sounds like a SUSE tool. See the driver README's discussion of DynamicTwinview.
